How to set default value in custom field?

Hi all - I've created a custom field "Outdated" which is visible and enabled during test execution to allow my testers a convenient method to note if a test is out of date. The checkbox automatically defaults to selected which is not what I want. How do I default a checkbox custom field to unselected?
